Thinking about everything that was fit into my schedule today is exhausting...I arrived at the office at 9:45 am and got started on "did not say" calls as well as calling businesses from the list to fact check their information for the monthly business calendar. (All after some coffee of course!)
I then met with a staff photographer at 11:00 am to shadow her on an assignment. We went down the street to City Hall where the Annual Police Memorial Ceremony was taking place. She shot photos and I aided her as a reporter from The News interviewed families and policemen. This assignment really meant a lot to me to be a part of, for I am incredibly interested in photography as well as journalism and writing.
Afterward, at 1:00 pm, I was picked up from City Hall by a different reporter who covers restaurant stories. She took me to the company, "Hail Merry" which is an all natural, gluten-free, vegan food campany. Their products are sold in whole foods and we got to watch the production of certain goods. It was so interesting learning about this company and they even gave me samples of all their snacks that they make.
I arrived back at the office later that afternoon around 3:00 pm and worked on my calls until around 5:00 pm. At 5:00 pm, i joined the page editors and learned how headlines are made, edited, and put together. It was so interesting! at 6:00 pm I joined the team that lays out the pages and watched the newspaper for the next morning pull together. I left at 7:00 pm.
